Boards of Review

Scouts who have completed all the requirements for a rank need to contact Troop 212’s Advancement Chairperson to schedule a Board of Review for all ranks besides Eagle. Give him at least one week notice to schedule your Board.

Our current Advancement Chairperson: is Dr. Butch Everson  To request a Board of Review send him an email and put “Board of Review request” in the subject line.  Click here to send email.

Be sure to schedule your Scoutmaster conference to be completed before the night of the Board.  Do not request your Board to be held the same night as your Scoutmaster conference since this may cause scheduling problems.

The Advancement Chairperson will schedule the Board on a first-come-first-served basis and at the convenience of the adults who will sit on the board. If you have a specific goal in mind for completing a rank do not wait until the last minute to schedule your board. Do not wait until right before a Court of Honor to schedule a board if you can do it sooner.  If there are too many scouts requesting Boards then there is no guarantee yours will be completed before the Court of Honor.

Scouts must present themselves in complete Class A uniform for all Boards of Review and bring their Scout book to the Board of Review. Be prepared to stand before the board. Practice standing up straight and not fidgeting.  You will be asked to recite the Scout Oath and Law and then answer questions by the members on the Board. It is not a test so don’t be nervous.

Eagle Rank

Eagle Scout Boards of Review are handled at the district level.  A Life scout is always welcome to request a mock Eagle board with our troop’s adults.  This does not help them attain their Eagle rank.  It merely gives them an opportunity to practice if they feel it will help them feel more comfortable before going before the District’s Board of Review.

When going before the District there are actually two Boards for the Eagle Scout.  The first board is for Project Review and Approval. Once the project is done and the Project workbook is complete they will request and attend the second Board which will decide if they receive their Eagle Rank.  Please refer to Troop 212’s Eagle information pack for complete details.

When a scout attains the rank of Eagle they will be recognized at the Troop’s next Court of Honor, but it is the responsibility of the Eagle Scout’s family to plan and host the Eagle Court of Honor for their son. The following link contains a lot of helpful information when planning this important ceremony.  http://www.macscouter.com/Eagle/EagleBook.pdf

When planning the ceremony keep a few things in mind.  Troop 212 is sponsored by the Knights of Columbus.  Remember to contact our Knights of Columbus charter organization representative to invite them to the Eagle Court of Honor. They have been making a presentation to the new Eagle Scout and greatly appreciate this opportunity.   Also contact Tiffany Adams in the Boy Scout office to get the name of the current contact for the Elks Club and invite them to the Court of Honor as well.  The Elks actually pay for the Eagle award. Normally the Scoutmaster will pick this up to present to the new Eagle, but the Elks like to make a presentation at the Court of Honor as well.
